Challenge Yourself with New Zealand Chamois Hunting

It would be a mistake to underestimate the compact Chamois! Athletic & equipped with binocular vision – this is one of New Zealand’s most challenging hunts! We guarantee shot opportunities on all New Zealand Chamois hunts.

New Zealand Chamois Hunting

Chamois (Rupicapra) arrived as a gift from Austria in 1907. Today, you can find these nimble alpine ‘antelope’ in New Zealand’s rugged Southern Alp foothills and high country. Aside from being a challenging chase – New Zealand chamois carry horns as large as any in the world! Both sexes carry horns – males tend to have heavier sets with longer hooks.

Today, chamois are only found in a few places around the world; join us in exploring some of New Zealand’s most inspiring highlands as we spot and stalk a true mountain trophy. Our certified guides guarantee shot opportunities on all chamois hunts.

NZ Chamois Hunting Seasons

Chamois can be hunted year-round. They sport gorgeous dark colors in winter (late April to August) and tan colored fur in summer (December to March). Peak rut occurs in May & June. By July, chamois bucks begin to congregate in bachelor groups as the weather turns coldest.

Having spent almost two weeks with Southern Hunting Adventures I would say this is a first rate hunt for a “true” hunter. This isn’t a “Give-me” hunt, this is a work for it type adventure! If you want to really get into the Kiwi life and see some absolutely beautiful country that you won’t get with other adventures, this is the place to go for chamois hunting NZ!

Sheldon and his team will insure you a GREAT time! I will be back again! Bow, rifle…whatever, go hunt with Southern Hunting Adventures! Tell them what you want to do, they may have some recommendations along the way and then just show up! Sheldon and team will handle the rest!

New Zealand Chamois Hunting Review

I cannot speak highly enough of Sheldon and my guide Angus. We spent a few days up in the mountains and Angus led me to my first bull tahr and chamois. Angus’s knowledge of the animals was incredible and he was excellent value back at camp with the legendary bacon and egg buttie whipped up each frosty morning. These guys have guided a lot of incredible people but treat the humble kiwi with equal respect, patience and energy. I would highly recommend fellow kiwis and foreign hunters to book an unforgettable experience with these lads you won’t be disappointed.

Angus is an incredible hunter and one of the best hunting guides I have ever had in my life…he is a determined and very nice person! Always positive and a very good approach to the clients and to the hunting…

I absolutely recommend Southern Hunting Adventures!!!
